Constructed for the 1960 Olympic Games, the Olympic Stadium in Rome was designed to combine Roman architecture with a modern twist. Architects Pier Luigi Nervi and Annibale Vitellozzi were tasked with the job of integrating the two elements and offering a functional layout as well as a capacity of more then 80,000. It was completed in 1957, ahead of the Olympics, it played a major role and hosted the ceremonies as well as multiple events.
Post 1960 Olympics, the stadium has continued to serve the city and has gone on to host football matches, concerts as well as other major cultural events. Both A. S. Roma and S. S. Lazio football clubs also call the stadium home cementing its importance to the city.
The stadium has undergone renovations over time to improve and update but all take into account is historical features and charm. After all, it is is Rome!
